2021 Gaja Sori Tilden Barbaresco
Founded in 1859 in the Piedmont region of Italy, Gaja is one of the world’s most revered and influential wineries, often credited with revolutionising Italian winemaking. Under the visionary leadership of Angelo Gaja, the estate pushed the boundaries of tradition, introducing barrique ageing, single-vineyard bottlings, and a focus on low yields to enhance quality. Originally famed for its Barbaresco and Barolo, Gaja expanded into Tuscany in the late 1990s with the creation of Ca’Marcanda in Bolgheri, where Bordeaux varieties thrive in the region’s unique soils.
98 points - James Suckling
Subtle and complex flavours of blackberries, pine needles, bark, light spices and violets. It is really perfumed and attractive. Full-bodied and chewy, but the tannins are very, very fine. It lingers for minutes. This is a brooding, muscular wine, but it's very refined. A wine for the cellar
98 points - Falstaff
Powerful, bright ruby-garnet colour. Very clear and memorable nose with notes of fresh cherry, crisp raspberry, blood orange and pomegranate. Fills the palate full, compact and very present, well-developed fruit, opens up with present, pithy tannins in many layers, has plenty of bite at the back, made for a long life!
97 points - Wine Spectator
Rich and almost creamy in texture, this detailed red evokes aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, roses, iron, tobacco and sweet spices. Well defined by lively acidity, with dense tannins to support it, it is balanced and harmonious, but should benefit from two to three years of ageing. It shows great finesse and length
