2022 Vistamare Toscana IGP Ca'Marcanda
Founded in 1859 in the Piedmont region of Italy, Gaja is one of the world’s most revered and influential wineries, often credited with revolutionising Italian winemaking. Under the visionary leadership of Angelo Gaja, the estate pushed the boundaries of tradition, introducing barrique ageing, single-vineyard bottlings, and a focus on low yields to enhance quality. Originally famed for its Barbaresco and Barolo, Gaja expanded into Tuscany in the late 1990s with the creation of Ca’Marcanda in Bolgheri, where Bordeaux varieties thrive in the region’s unique soils.
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2022 Vistamare has a medium straw hue and is expressive and resinous with aromas of candle wax and tropical fruit as well as notes of melon, white grapefruit, and fresh chive. It has good texture and concentration, with lovely focus, and never feels blowsy or overblown. It is an impressive vintage for the Vistamare, with lovely salinity on the finish.
