DOMAINE HUMBERT & FRERES
“Take a look at the Humbert wines: you'll thank me.”
- Allan Meadows, Burghound.com
"The strong point of the Humbert estate is once again, its remarkable series of first growths, elegant, authentic, highly recommendable. The production volumes are limited, as always with the Dugat."
- Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve
“The wines of the Humbert estate are distinguished by their elegance, their finesse and their aromatic power”.

About Humbert Freres:
The Humbert brothers, Frédéric and Emmanuel, have wine in their blood and the earth pegged to their hearts. Men of few words, but always just and profound, they embody in themselves the common sense of the peasant, or rather winegrower. Domaine Humbert Frères has always been family, the two brothers, cousins of the Dugats, have been in charge since 1989. They exploit around Gevrey-Chambertin 7 hectares of vines, only in ownership. The plot is remarkable and the plant material, largely old vines (more than 40 years) is not to be outdone. The vinification is traditional, grapes destemmed, punching down and regular pumping over rather long vatting. The wines are cut for aging and express themselves wonderfully after a few years of cellaring.
Indent /Pre-arrival Offer:
The wine import “En primeur” system is that if you pre-order wine, there is an incentive to pay
prior to its arrival in Australia.
In this instance, we are offering heavily discounted prices for pre-payment.
These wines are available at the indent prices on our online store.
If you’d prefer to order via email or phone there is a list of the new incoming arrivals from Domaine Humbert Freres, as well as a corresponding order request form below. Please feel free to contact us for any additional enquiries.
The Wines, Points, & Reviews…
2021 Red Burgundies
2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Côte D'Or, Our Price $67
Red and dark pinot fruit aromas trimmed in a touch of earth give way to sleek, delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors that terminate in an inviting and balanced finish that has just enough structure to suggest that a year or two of keeping should see it at its best.
86-88 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
From vineyards in the communes of Gevrey-Chambertin and Brochon, the 2021 Bourgogne Côte d'Or exhibits aromas of sweet berries and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and seamless palate built around lively acids and melting tannins.
87-88 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
2021 Fixin ‘Vieilles Vignes’, Our Price $89
From a parcel planted in 1959, the 2021 Fixin Vieilles Vignes was vinified without any punching down to avoid any sense of structural asperity. Exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries, spices and raw cocoa, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and perfumed, with supple tannins and a mouthwatering finish.
88-90 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
2021 Gevrey Chambertin ‘Vieilles Vignes’, Our Price $146
A moderately toasty nose combines notes of red and dark currant with those of earth and forest floor characters. The rich, delicious and intense medium-bodied flavors possess very good mid-palate concentration while display solid length on the dusty, youthfully austere and more powerful finale.
88-91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
More structured and concentrated than the Fixin, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes delivers notes of dark berries, cherries and spices, followed by a medium-bodied palate built around powdery tannins and lively acids. Old vines are a strong suit at this address, as they are with their cousins, the Dugats.
89-90 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
2021 Gevrey Chambertin 1 er cru ‘Le Poissenot’, Our Price $311
Pungent aromas of wood and reduction introduce highly refined, energetic and precise medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture along with even more minerality on the moderately austere, balanced and sneaky long finale. Lovely potential.
91-93 Allen Meadows, Burghound
2021 Gevrey Chambertin 1er cru ‘Craipillot’, Our Price $311
There are only two barrels of the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Craipillot, a cuvée produced from the domaine's oldest vines. Wafting from the glass with scents of dark berries, cherries, spices and baking chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and lively, with sweet, powdery tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish.
91-92 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
2021 Gevrey Chambertin 1er cru ‘Estournelles SJ’, Our Price $337
A moderately oaky if exceptionally fresh nose freely reveals its aromas of dark raspberry, spice and once again, cool floral wisps. I very much like the texture of the refined and intensely mineral-driven middleweight flavors that deliver fine depth and persistence on the moderately toasty finale. This is more refined than the Poissenot but less complex at present.
91-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
There's only one barrel of the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless wine evocative of cassis, wild berries, spices and orange rind. Given the tiny production, this review will be of largely academic interest, yet the wine stands out as a highlight of the Humbert range this year.
92-93 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Our Price $517
Generous wood sets off airy and cool aromas of mostly red berries, earth and a hint of sauvage character. There is both more volume and a lovely texture to the bigger-bodied and solidly dense flavors that conclude in a sappy, complex and toasty finale. This is quite good with fine development potential though definitely made in an oakier style
91-94 Allen Meadows, Burghound
Traditional in style, this surpasses expectations. The wood notes from the elevage mark the initial attack, but behind this, there is good ripeness to the plummy fruit, with earthy notes and hints of cedar and smoke. The tannins are firm and strict, but there is enough ripeness to draw the wine to a delightful, lingering finish. The wine was fermented as 40% whole clusters and is ageing in 100% new casks.
93 points, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
From holdings in Mazoyères, the 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers up aromas of dark berries, cherries, orange rind, loamy soil and rich spices. Full-bodied, layered and impressively concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and an expansive finish, it's a strong effort in this agronomically challenging vintage.
