2018 Domaine Aurélien Verdet | Fixin

$147.00

A craftsman rather than a salesman, Aurélien Verdet has a restrained and protective nature that makes him appear a little distant until after a little time or a few visits when the genuine warmth and smiles start to emerge as he darts backwards and forward in the cellars (after coming in from the vineyards merely to see you), pulling bottles and barrel samples from here and there to illustrate his ever improving, quite significant range of wines.

Aurélien’s father was one of the first in Burgundy to be engaged in organic and biodynamic practices, and Aurélien, without the inherited vineyard resources of most Burgundian families, went out to work for other vignerons while he built his own winery (a modern and large above ground cement structure) after hours while he gradually built his own brand.

One of the most modern and fresh of the Burgundian producers, with his point of difference being the soft, fragrant and seamlessly structured and delicious red berry flavours that run through his entire range from Commune to Premier Cru releases. Whilst mid-range in price, the quality of Aurélien’s wines indicate that these are underpriced compared to their peers.

JJ (John Jens)

Overview:
The 2018 Fixin stands true to the area's vinicultural roots, marked by a compelling combination of power and elegance. The nose is a rich tapestry of vibrant black and red fruits underpinned by gentle spices, revealing the depth of its character.
