Our Host - Brett Crittenden:
Australia’s most accomplished
internationally based wine person.
Brett Crittenden is an Australian, who after honing
his wine skills as a purchaser of the world’s great
wines for his family’s legendary group of Melbourne
Wine Stores, went on to become Australia’s most
accomplished international wine dealer. In this role
he has lived and worked in Australia, Argentina,
Russia, France and the UK.
He has been judging at a senior level in each of the
world’s largest and most respected international
wine competitions for more than 40 years –
amongst many other similar roles around the world.
He regularly chairs panels at each of the IWSC and
the Decanter World Wine Awards in London and at
the world class IWC and at the Syrah du Monde
competitions - also in Europe. These include the
planet’s largest and most respected international
wine shows and involve between 200 and 350
judges and up to 20,000 wine entrants each.
When younger, Brett spent 12 years with LVMH
(Moet Hennessy) in their sparkling wine and
Champagne operations, initially in Australia and
then internationally.
With these experiences, he then played the pivotal
role in the decade long task of the re-establishment
of Russia’s by then discredited and collapsed links
to the world’s fine wine trade.
Brett consulted to that country’s largest wine and
spirits importer and successfully rebuilt the nation’s
international wine relationships - with their
associated valuable allocations - with many of the
most sought-after and finest international wine
labels.

Condrieu "La Doriane" 2021, Our Price $250
The 2021 Condrieu La Doriane presents apricot, white peach, pear, quince, lemon flesh and cedar elements. Honeysuckle and spring blossom add an enticing floral lift. Medium-bodied and refreshing, the 2021 offers a less ripe profile compared to both the 2019 and 2020. Instead, it showcases freshness and energy, which should appeal to readers looking for a leaner Condrieu expression. Nonetheless, it stays true to the expressive Guigal style, ending with good drive on the nuanced finale.

Condrieu 2019, Our Price $117
Notes of candied grapefruit peel, lilac and apricot perfume this bright, sunny Viognier. While fermented and matured in one-third new oak, it balances smoky, spicy, vanilla-cream richness well against pristine tangerine and white-peach flavors, with an invigorating lift of tangerine acidity on the finish. Delicious young, the wine should gain honeyed nuances through 2030.

Full ruby color. The deeply perfumed nose showcases cherry, dark berries, licorice, savory herbs and olive notes. Concentrated, spice-laced cassis, cherry-cola and candied lavender flavors smoothly blend depth and vivacity. Polished tannins come in slowly on a very long, penetrating finish that strongly repeats the cherry and floral notes.

Saint Joseph Rouge 2019, Our Price $74
Dark, brilliant ruby. Pungent black raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by floral, olive and baking spice nuances. Smooth and expansive on the palate, offering spice-tinged red and blue fruit preserve, licorice and allspice flavors that show fine delineation and mineral lift. Juicy and subtly chewy in texture, finishing with resonating blue fruit and spice character; tannins slowly emerge.

Glass-staining ruby. Powerful, mineral- and smoke-accented black and blue fruit, potpourri, olive and vanilla aromas acquire a spicy nuance as the wine opens up. Offers densely packed cherry-cola, cassis and blueberry flavors that show excellent clarity and a smoky top note. Finishes impressively long, youthfully chewy and spicy, with building tannins and a suave, lingering candied violet note. 50% new oak.

Côte-Rôtie 'Brune et Blonde' 2019, Our Price $175
Inky ruby. Vibrant, spice-accented cherry and boysenberry scents are complicated by hints of black pepper, candied flowers and licorice. Supple and broad in the mouth, offering juicy red and blue fruit preserves, spicecake, olive paste and violet pastille flavors that tighten up steadily with air. The floral note repeats strongly on the clinging finish, which shows excellent clarity and velvety, slowly building tannins. There are almost a quarter-million bottles of this wine made in a typical vintage, by the way. 50% new oak.

All of the classic Cote-Rotie aromas (leather, smoked bacon, spices and black cherry) pour from the glass of this rich and fleshy wine. Very silky texture, in spite of the generous, fine tannins, which build beautifully at the long, complete finish.

Saturated ruby. Cherry-cola, blackberry, candied flowers and a hint of olive on the spice- and smoke-tinged nose. Fleshy and broad in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and fruitcake flavors that become livelier and sweeter as the wine opens up. Shows fine detail and resonating florality on a very long, smooth finish that's shaped by discreet, well-knit tannins.

This combines the elegance and finesse for which the appellation is famous with tremendous power. In spite of this the tannins are very fine, the generous oak already beautifully woven into the plush tapestry of flavors. Stunning length and complexity at the finish. From seven plots that are neighbours to La Mouline and La Landonne on the Cote-Rotie. A cuvee of 93% syrah and 7% viognier. Matured in 100% new oak barrels for 38 months

Côte-Rôtie 'Château d'Ampuis' 2018, Our Price $302
A balanced nose of predominantly sweet meaty barbecue is topped with overripe plums, black olives, hoisin and black peppercorn that induces one's hunger. The palate is deep and dark, marked by the delicacy of fresh plum, black olives, fresh bacon and rosemary. Unrelentingly enticing, with rolling acidity that washes the palate.
