Bourgogne Rouge | Côte de Nuits-Villages | Givry (1er Cru)

The Wine List (Menu TBC)

1st Bracket

2022 Rapet Pere & Fils Bourgogne Blanc
Seductive notes of spiced apples, preserved lemons, brioche and fennel excite from the first whiff, leading into a beautifully ripe core that takes centre stage. Flavours of Golden Delicious apples allude to its ripeness while a crunch and minerally vigour is pervading the palate and reining it in. There's flesh coupled with refinement and tension. It's a charming white Burgundy that oozes class.

2021 Rapet Pere & Fils Beaune 'Champs Pimont' 1er Cru

2nd Bracket - Meursault

2022 Jean Monnier Meursault 'Vieilles Vignes'
Light brioche and buttered-toast aromas here, together with apple crumble and pear. It’s creamy and full-bodied. Lightly toasty, but fresh and elegant. Nicely done. Drink now.
91 Points - Claire Nesbitt, jamessuckling.com ( May 10, 2024)
2021 Vintage - 97 points (platinum) at the Decanter World Wine Awards
2021 Jean Monnier Meursault 'Clos du Cromin'
…Clos du Cromin is a brilliantly beautiful Meursault, which excels with grace and precision rather than the more obese and buttery style that Meursault may be characterized by. Light yellow and clear in color with a flattering and focused nose with citrus, nuts, white flowers and discreet butter tones. In the mouth a slightly more acidic and mineral style than is typically the case with Meursault, where the style can be extremely obese. Especially here in the excellent vintage 2019, where this Clos de Cromin appears precise and focused with an acid-rich backbone and an almost crunchy minerality in the very long aftertaste.

2022 Jean Monnier Meursault 'La Barre'
2022 Jean Monnier Meursault 'Les Rougeots'

3rd bracket - Côte de Nuits-Villages

2022 Aurelien Verdet Bourgogne En Lutenière Rouge
The Bourgogne Rouge En Luteniere by Aurélien Verdet is an inspired, captivating red wine from Burgundy, France. It boasts a delightful complexity, presenting a compelling balance of cherries, strawberries and subtle oak influences. The palate is enriched by elegant tannins, crafting a wine boasting perfect balance. Earthy undertones contribute to its depth, followed by a long, vibrant finish.

2021 Rapet Pere et Fils Bourgogne Rouge ‘En Bully’
A very pinot-like nose combines notes of red cherry with those of earth and a whiff of crushed fennel. The supple, round and delicious middleweight flavors offer good energy that continues onto the mildly austere and rustic finish that leans out slightly as it sits on the palate. To enjoy young for its crunchy fruit and I would suggest serving it with an appropriate dish to round off the finish.

2018 Xavier Durand Côte de Nuits - Villages

4th bracket - Givry

2017 Thenard 'Les Bois Chevaux' Ier Cru
Plenty of smoke and earth notes lead off in this red, along with spicy cherry, currant and dried herb flavors. This is sleek and silky, in a more traditional style. Balanced and long. Drink now through 2028.
90 Points - Wine Spectator
2017 Thenard 'Clos du Cellier' Ier Cru
This red mingles cherry and strawberry fruit flavors with smoky herbs and woodsy elements in the best sense. Silky and harmonious, with a well-integrated structure and long, sultry aftertaste. Drink now through 2030.
92 Points - Wine Spectator

2017 Thenard 'Clos St Pierre' 1er Cru
Though supple in texture, this red is austere in flavor, offering modest cherry and berry fruit, mineral and tar notes. Firm and shows ample grip on the finish. There is fine length here, so be patient. Best from 2023 through 2030.
91 Points - Wine Spectator
2016 Thenard 'Ile des Vergelesses' Ier Cru
From my annual or twice-annual visits to Domaine Thenard, we are building a library of notes on their occasionally tasted much older Premier Cru Givry releases. In July 2019 we tried the Givry Premier Crus back to 1976 (astonishing! Yes! 18.4 points) after having tried the 1978s on my prior visit. These are very reasonably priced lesser known Givry appellation Premier Cru Burgundies. This clearly illustrates that these very reasonably priced Burgundies can age and improve for decades with ease. Please also note that the winemaking techniques and fruit quality selected today are far superior to the wines of the 70s and 80s.
