“Being awarded Platinum at Decanter is a huge honour and continues a legacy we’re incredibly proud of. This wine comes from our original plantings in Wilyabrup—a site that consistently delivers. After last year’s Best in Show, it’s incredibly rewarding to see our Cabernet recognised again on the global stage."
The Platinum Standard:

Fermoy Cold Fire Fume Blanc 2024
Who doesn’t like Sauvignon Blanc with a little ooomf? A herbal and savoury nose of split straw, cumquat, prickly pear, and flint—gives way to a feeling of knowing, yet, still guessing. As interest in classic Margaret River SB and SBS wanes, the rise of Fumé-style seems like a natural progression for the region. And when done well—it excites me! Fumé translates to smoked or smoke-flavour, and this wine is true to its name. Camp-oven peach cobbler, coriander seed, lime zest, coastal succulents, and fresh pear. The wine sees 100% barrel-fermented and is matured for nine months in French oak, adding texture, structure, and soft spices. Great length. Good palate weight. The acid is crunchy, and the wine finishes with a comforting phenolic cocoon and the reminiscence of smoky gum leaves. Serve with ashed goat’s cheese from your local monger.

Fermoy Reserve Semillon 2019
With 5% chardonnay. Matured for 11 months in French oak (80% new for 3 months, then 8 months in seasoned). At this stage, the sweet, marzipan/crushed coffee oak dominates the wine. However, the fruit has a concentrated jalapeño pungency that suggests it may be up to the task of consuming this mains-size dish of French oak. The brilliant length of flavour further backs up the suspicion that this may yet come up for air. Drink by 2032

Fermoy Chardonnay 2024
Lemon butter, brine, baked apples, and cinnamon—this wine is value for money. Winemaker Jeremy Hodgson (Jez) has a knack for crafting balanced, effortless wines with typicity. Classic Margaret River concentration on the nose, with gentle white and yellow peaches, that softly roll into an unexpected perfume of fresh-cut flowers. And who doesn't like flowers? The palate is fresh and balanced, with crushed nuts and plenty of texture. Full solids and wild ferment build depth, while 100% barrel fermentation and nine months in oak, bring richness and structure. It's a vibe. Eat with a grilled chicken burger.

Fermoy Reserve Chardonnay 2023
"Another wonderful example of the outstanding chardonnays coming off this established Margaret River vineyard. Follows a line of handpicking and whole bunch pressing with wild fermentation and nine months in oak. The primary fruit of grapefruit and cut lime with some light brioche reveal their subtle qualities on the nose. The palate has a steeling linear feel to it but that in many ways conceals its sustained power and intensity. A precise and focussed wine with so much potential. Cellar 10 years.

Fermoy Reserve Chardonnay 2020
Of all the Fermoy wines, the Reserve Chardonnay was the wine I was holding out to see. My memory of previous vintages is of acidity so finely woven into the fruit that the affair becomes succulent and juicy ... chewy and satisfying. It brings a smile to the face. As this does. Concentrated, classical, a little bit creamy, a little bit nutty, definitely spicy and voluminous in its powerful fruit explosion in the mouth. It won't always be just $65, though we can hope it will.

”Quintessential and stylish, exuding pure cassis, blackberry and briary fruit which garnishes the elegant framework of structure and tannin and seeps into the mouth-wateringly juicy acidity. A fine mineral undertone ordains the long, visionary finish.” - Judges Comments
Fermoy Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
100% cabernet sauvignon, Houghton clone. Matured for 18 months in French oak (36% new). You know when you spot Houghton clone from Wilyabrup that you're in for a succulent, red-fruited time. It's a combination of the clone and the dirt, and it's good. While the oak is initially prominent now, the fruit behind it is precisely as expected – singing. This may need a little more time for the oak to recede, however the fruit is bang-on, and the tannins are a highlight. Gorgeous. Drink 2021-2036.

Fermoy Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
From the wonderful 2018 vintage comes this excellent reflection of the season. The opulence and power is evident immediate, yet it delivers with a refined medium body. The aromas show those blackcurrant, bay leaf and slightly minerally brick dusty characters with a lifted bay leaf and black olive combination. The palate delivers a rich and textured mouth feel with firmish sinewy tannins and well managed oak. A stylish wine.

Do Cabernet Sauvignon and Margaret River go together? Well, it’s the fourth time that the combination has been featured in our Best In Show selection – so yes, they do. Three of those laureates, intriguingly, have come from the high-quality, low-quantity 2020 vintage – and if this wine is anything to go by, it’s a vintage which is taking its time to reach even early maturity. This wine remains an opaque black-red in colour, with admirably pure and restrained aromas of shapely blackcurrant lent freshening complexity by bush and scrub notes – a single sniff is transporting. The wine is concentrated and refined on the palate. Not merely fruity, though there is plenty of that ‘noble’ blackcurrant to enjoy, but the fruit is lent shade and nuance by the biotope allusions evident on the nose. The tannins and acids are measured and proportionate; the ripeness well-judged; and the wine moves through the mouth with easy, drinkable grace.

100% Houghton clone from Wilyabrup. Hand picked from 35yo vines, partial wild ferment, 3 weeks on skins, matured in French oak for 18 months (57% new). Houghton clone + Wilyabrup = a great match. Somehow the dirt and sky here combine with the clone to produce a decidedly red, supple, succulent style of cabernet. Also, it must be said here, Fermoy is on the up: watch this star rise. This is precisely as we hope: bright, spicy, layered with raspberry, pomegranate, red licorice and pink peppercorn. In the mouth it is exactly thus, with the added bonus of spring flowers, crushed graphite and Pink Lady Apples. Gold medal Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2021.

Supple, briny cassis rises up to greet you on first sniff. In a word, pretty. Vibrant. Also joyful. The wine takes a very serious turn on the palate. This is finely structured, shaped by chalky tannins that carry ripe, medium-weight fruit over the tongue and through to the finish. Caresses more than it asserts, making it a subtly spicy, elegant and willowy cabernet, capable of years of grace in the cellar. Brilliant fruit. Drink by 2046

- “A substantial red wine, but a svelte one. Creamy oak on curranty fruit with mulberry, tobacco and bay leaf as highlights. There’s quite a lot of oak here, but the balance hasn’t been thrown. Fruit quality is exemplary. Drink by 2037”.
